VRMC History Decades of Excellence
Since 1936, the Virginia Regional Medical Center (VRMC), formerly known as Virginia Municipal Hospital, has been providing quality health care services to northeastern Minnesota residents. Since its first patient was admitted on December 2, 1936, VRMC has been meeting the needs of Iron Range Communities in a caring and trusting environment.
Growing to meet the need
In 2005, Virginia Regional Medical Center welcomed the addition of the Duluth Clinic –Virginia physicians to the VRMC campus with the addition of an $18 million state-of-the-art clinic. In 2003, upgrades were made to the campus with a completely remodeled Emergency Room which included a totally enclosed ambulance garage, private patient treatment rooms with both auditory and visual privacy, a private waiting area, large trauma rooms and a decontamination station. 1999 brought the addition of the VRMC Medical Arts Building which offers patients direct access to physician offices and rehabilitation services on its campus. The medical center has expanded its diagnostic capabilities, adding a state-of-the-art MRI, CT scanner, stereotactic biopsy, and cardiac stress echo. In addition, the surgical area was expanded to handle the rapid growth in outpatient services.
VRMC is committed to the continual improvement of its facility to meet the ever changing needs of patient care. We are living in a time where research and new technology can increase our life expectancy, create a better quality of life and cure once incurable diseases. Northeastern Minnesota residents can count on having those resources close to home at VRMC.
