VRMC Emergency Room Entrance Change

Starting February 13, 2012, entry into the Emergency Room at the Virginia Regional Medical Center will now occur through the main hospital entrance.

This will be a permanent change and will facilitate a smoother flow as pateints will go to the main admitting area to register for procedures and Emergency Room visits.  It will allow for quicker registration for our patinets.  A new vending area adjacent to the main hospital lobby is also planned with access to beverages and snacks for patients and visitors aroudn the clock.  The renovation work will be done in stages with some work already completed.  Directional signs will be prominently posted.  We ask for your patience while this renovation is underway.

Breathe Easy Support Group Meeting at VRMC

The Breathe Easy Support Group offers quarterly educational opportunities for people with heart disease, lung disease and diabetes.  Because February is “Heart Month,” this month’s meeting will be an Italian-themed Valentine’s Day Party celebrating your healthy heart.  Entertainment will be provided by the “I Cantatori Singers,” an all male Italian singing group.  In addition to musical entertainment, they will share positive points on how important it is to have activities and groups of people that bring inspiration and joy into your life.  This program will be held in the VRMC McMillan Auditorium on Friday, February 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.  The cost is $10.  Please RSVP to 749-9409 by noon on February 6.  Seating is limited. This program is open to the public and everyone is welcome.

VRMC Offers a Diabetic Educational Program on “Caring for Your Feet”

This annual wonderful festive community event includes so many businesses and talented individuals from the area, and this event would not be possible without the efforts of all of you--whether you were a sponsor, a designer, a donator, home owner, or a volunteer.  In addition to all those mentioned above, special thanks to VRMC’s gourmet catering service—Great Expectations—for again providing all the wonderfully delicious meals, the musical group “Pulse” for the entertainment at the luncheons, Iron Range Youth in Action for helping with the Tour of Homes, Family Day and clean up, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Grove Studio, Shelly and Scott Steinberg who created the balloon animals, and the many individual volunteers who sold raffle tickets, cleared and set tables, washed dishes, greeted guests, wrapped trees and items, packed and hauled, served meals, delivered trees…we absolutely couldn’t do it without each and every single one of you.  And lastly, thank you to all who attended our 12th Annual Festival of Trees and supported our fund-raiser.  We appreciate all of you and we’ll see you again next year!

VRMC Surgical Services joins Minnesota Time Out Campaign

VRMC has joined the Minnesota Time Out Campaign, an effort by the Minnesota Safe Surgery Coalition to eliminate wrong-site surgical/invasive procedure events by conducting a robust Time Out for every patient, every procedure, every time.

The goal of the Time Out Campaign is to prevent wrong-site events through administrators, physicians, and front-line staff joining together to hold each other accountable for conducting effective Time Outs for every patient undergoing all types of invasive procedures.

Minnesota hospitals are required by law to report adverse health events, including wrong-site surgical/invasive procedures.  Wrong-site events occur about once in every 60,000 invasive procedures performed, so they are rare.  But the goal is to eliminate them entirely by following the Time Out process.
