Inpatient Rehab The mission of Inpatient RehabCare Program at Virginia Regional Medical Center is to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation program of the highest quality in order to improve the functional independence of those who we serve.
Patients come to us because their lives have been affected by accidents, strokes, neurological disorders, arthritis, and other impairments. Our goal is to help them reach their full potential for independence by integrating the services of physicians, nursing staff, physical therapists, psychologists and social workers. Together with the patient, the RehabCare team creates a customized plan to best help each patient achieve his or her goals.
The Inpatient RehabCare Program provides services for patients who have suffered functional loss due to a disabling Illness or injury including the following:

Our patients stay in the comfortable Inpatient RehabCare Unit on VRMC's second floor, with the staff from Iron Range Rehabilitation Center, Duluth Clinic-Virginia, and Range Mental Health Center coming in to provide services.
VRMC's Inpatient RehabCare Unit is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Scope of Services Persons served will receive a minimum of 3 hours a day of physical and occupational therapy, Monday through Friday. In addition, Saturday morning therapy is provided from at least one therapy discipline. Speech therapy and other services are provided in addition to the three hours of daily physical and occupational therapy.
This program does not currently serve persons who are ventilator-dependent, comatose, have spinal cord injuries, or burn management needs. Persons must be 18 years or older for admission.
Inpatient RehabCare will serve as a resource for suggestions for alternative placement when patients referred do not qualify for our program.
Payor Source Information Medicare pays for the cost of inpatient rehabilitation provided you meet criteria at admission and during your stay. The Medical Director will make the decision whether you meet the criteria, but it is always subject to review from Medicare.
Private insurance, Medicaid, and managed care benefits will be verified prior to admission and pre-authorization for admission obtained. This is not a guarantee of payment. Throughout your stay, hospital utilization review personnel will work with your insurance to obtain continued authorization.

Persons without insurance coverage are admitted only after approval by hospital administration.
Third party funding sources such as Worker's Compensation and Vocational Rehabilitation can be explored as needed.
