MRI Our MRI scanner is the best in the world and accredited by the American College of Radiology. We are the second only to the Mayo Clinic for acquiring a 3 Tesla magnet accreditation. Our Signa Excite 3.0T MRI by GE offers the most advanced imaging technology available. MR images are generated when a strong magnetic field and radio waves are combined with the hydrogen atoms in the tissues of the body. Using computers, this information is made into highly detailed pictures of various areas of the body. MR produces a high quality image, allowing for an extremely accurate diagnosis of your particular medical condition. MR is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques available. There are no known side effects and no radiation is used. The examination is completely painless and all you need to do is relax and try to lie still. Usually, no preparation is required for this procedure. During your examination in the magnetic scanning room, an MR technologist will help you onto a padded table. The table on which you are lying will move smoothly into the magnetic opening. As the unit takes several series of scans, you will hear a sound similar to a drum beat. The entire procedure usually takes less than one hour. Throughout the study, patients are in contact with the MR staff by means of a special intercom and window. Please remember, however, to remain as still as possible. For most exams you may listen to music. You may bring your own CD or choose from our selection. Earplugs are also available.
