Sleep Disorder Lab VRMC's Sleep Disorder Lab was created in direct response to patient needs in the region. At the sleep lab, registered specialists diagnose and treat a variety of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, restless legs, snoring and narcolepsy through the use of a sleep study or polysonogram. Our sleep rooms are designed to make our patients feel at home. Special treatment for each and every patient -- we always have time for you. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Alan Garrison, RRT, Manager, Sleep Lab, at (218) 749-9476.
The Sleepiness Scale How likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in the following situations, in contrast to feeling just tired? This refers to your usual way of life in recent times. Even if you have not done some of these things recently, try to work out how they would have affected you.
Use the following scale to choose the most appropriate number for each situation:
0 = would never doze 1 = slight chance of dozing 2 = moderate chance of dozing 3 = high chance of dozing
Situation 1. Sitting and reading 2. Watching TV 3. Sitting, inactive in a public place (i.e., a theater or meeting) 4. As a passenger in a car for an hour without a break 5. Lying down to rest in the afternoon when circumstances permit 6. Sitting and talking to someone 7. Sitting quietly for a lunch without alcohol 8. In a car, while stopped for a few minutes in traffic.
Total your score. Any scores of 2 or 3 should be addressed with your physician.
The goal of sleep is to promote daytime alertness. If you feel you are not getting enough sleep and it is affecting the way you feel or function during the day, seek medical advice.
