Surgical Services
The Operating Room is located on the first floor of Virginia Regional Medical Center adjacent to the X-ray Department and the Intensive Care Unit. There are four operating rooms and a cysto room in the suite with an adjoining sub-sterile area. Dressing rooms for men and women lead into the staff lounge. There is an Anesthesia Storage Room as well as offices for Managers of Anesthesia and Surgical Services. A fifth Operating Room is located on the second floor, south corner East Wing of the Labor Delivery Area. This Operating Room is used for C-sections. The Recovery Room is located within the Surgical suite; it has 9 beds, which include an isolation unit and surgery holding area. Its location allows unimpeded transfer of patients from the Operating Room to the recovery room and ready to access to surgery, the Anesthesiologist, and the Anesthetist. The Day Surgery Area is located adjacent to the Recovery Room. The admitting area and the secondary recovery area are located in one room , which has space for 12 outpatients. The unit cares for patients with a lower level of acuity. The number of patients in the unit varies from day to day. Surgical Services: The Operating Room provides care to patients of all ages during the operative phases of their hospital stay. The Operating Room is responsible for the care of surgical patients requiring either an elective or emergency procedure. Both inpatient and outpatient surgeries are done in the suite. Many surgical procedures are performed excluding Open Heart, Neurosurgery, and Transplants.
Surgical specialties include Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngolgy, Urology, Podiatry, and Dentistry. Services are also provided by use of the laser in areas of Gynecology, Urology, and Podiatry. Pelviscopy and Laparascopic procedures are also being performed. In-house lithotripsy is available to provide services for Urology patients. The Day Surgery service offers pre- and post-operative care to patients of all ages admitted for outpatient surgery and procedures. The service is responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients received from the primary recovery room and those having local anesthesia with sedation received directly from the Operating Room or Radiology. The Recovery Room provides a safe environment for skilled management of surgical patients during the immediate preoperative and postoperative period. Quality nursing care to these patients will be provided with the use of oximeter, hemodynamic monitoring, medication, and isolation room regardless of socio-economic status, ethnic group, religious beliefs, sex, or age. A staff of trained RNs provides this service. Patients recovering from anesthesia will receive short-term, intensive nursing care through continuous observation, monitoring, and assessment. Post-anesthetic and complications will be prevented and/or recognized and treated properly. Hours Of Operation: The Operating Room is open for regular scheduled procedures Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Surgery cases begin at 7:30 AM and continue until the schedule is completed. Emergency hours begin at 3:30 PM and run until 7:00 AM the next morning. Every holiday and weekend is also emergency hours.
